Catalogue Note
This group is a passionate assemblage of exemplary artworks purchased in New York over several decades, beginning in the 1960's. The collector, former Board Member and First President of the Asian Art Council of the Brooklyn Museum, curated his collection with a prime objective to cultivate interest in Asian Culture and Art within the community. Over two generations, the Alden collection became well known among museum curators and scholars, many pieces were thus gifted to museums. The present paintings represent a family-shared appreciation for beauty, quality, history and culture. Lot 584-587 are all from this collection.
