三餘堂主人承家訓「對己，三思而行；對人，多留餘地」而以「三餘堂」自居。其青年時就對中國書畫非常感興趣，認為這是中國文人抒發內心情懷的最高表達形式之一，并開始其漫漫書畫收藏之旅，藏品以清代、民初藝術家翰墨為多。三餘堂主人於2005年起為每件藏品及藝術家寫詳細介紹，并編輯成書，用功甚勤。此次419-423號拍品均來自其收藏，其中四件於《戊戌變法與洋務運動人物的墨跡》一書中出版。
