Catalogue Note
First edition. A most interesting presentation copy, with the signature of M. J. Roberts on the verso of the front free endpaper; and directly below it, Newman's inscription "with the kindest regards of the Author. Feb 21/66."
On the verso of the dedication leaf, Roberts has written "The pencil marks are exact copy of those in General Gordon's book, sent from Khartoum to his sister in England. The original was lent to me by Cardinal Newman, being sent to him for a few days by Gen. Gordon's sister."
