  • Paper, ink.

First octavo edition of the first two cantos, first edition, largest format, of the rest.  When John Murray reprinted the first two cantos of Don Juan, he did so at first at first in a large octavo, printed at 9s 6d; a year later, in 1820, he added an edition in a smaller octavo format, priced at 7s.  These Wise refers to as "large paper," or "demy octavo," and "small paper," or "foolscap octavo."  When Leigh Hunt and his brother assumed publication of the poem in 1823, these two formats were maintained, and a third, much smaller one, was added (the so-called "common" edition).
