Catalogue Note
First edition, second issue, with the desirable "Remembrance Copy" leaf accomplished and signed by Whitman. This copy was presented to "Miss E N Morris." "Almost every copy was autographed and it is improbable that more than a hundred copies were issued. The book is exceedingly rare" (Wells & Goldsmith). Memoranda of the War consists of Whitman's first-person observations of the war, written 1863–65. It was later incorporated into Specimen Days.
