Catalogue Note
This drawing is certainly a project of a ballet costume design for the Royal Danish Theatre. Kay Nielsen created stage scenery and costumes, in collaboration with Johannes Poulsen for the theatre between 1917 and 1924.
Johannes Poulsen's wife, Ulla Poulsen, a dancer and actor at the Royal Danish Theatre wrote and signed a description (suggestion?) on the cardboard:
"flower baskets are painted - preferably embroidered
blue with silver motifs on the back
Two lacework-widths on the side
are attached to the blue underdress
(...) golden lacework,
the bright red headwear preferably embroidered
white pearl with golden sprig."

A nice and elaborated example of Kay Nielsen scenery work.
