Miss Biddulph was one of five neighbor daughters of the Barrett's when they lived in Herefordshire. Elizabeth confided to her diary that she found them "cold, formal and commonplace." Second impression, without "THE END" on page 275, but with page 160 numbered correctly in volume 2. The work that brought her the widest readership.
