Catalogue Note
John Parish Robertson “is best remembered for Letters on Paraguay… co-authored with his brother William. These detailed though far from disinterested epistolary accounts of their experiences in South America, especially in Paraguay, became standard sources for later historians and at the time were widely admired by a readership fascinated by Francia and his isolated and downtrodden republic” (ODNB).
