"The Charles Eaton... from Sydney to Singapore, was wrecked on the Great Barrier Reef near Sir Charles Hardy Island, August, 1834. Five men in a boat arrived at Timor; twenty-five of the remaining people were murdered by natives, and only two boys spared. These were rescued on Murray Island by the Isabella, August, 1836" (Ferguson).
This copy belonged to Patrick Leslie, a noted pioneer of early settlement in Queensland, and a relative of the author by marriage.
THE WORK IS RARE and there are no records of it appearing at auction. There are two issues of this work published in 1837, one by Statham (as here) and one by Evans (cf. Ferguson 2287).
