Catalogue Note
The Keying was purchased at Canton in August 1846 by English businessmen and set sail under Captain Kellett from Hong Kong on 6th December 1846 with a crew of 30 Chinese and 12 Englishmen, bound for England. Having rounded the Cape of Good Hope and after departing St. Helena, due to adverse conditions, she diverted to New York. After visiting Boston she crossed the Atlantic to England and was opened for public exhibition "as nothing of the kind has ever been seen before... everything about her is perfectly new, and strange and unusual". THE WORK IS APPARENTLY UNRECORDED.
