Catalogue Note
Allan Stewart (1865-1951) was a Scottish painter who specialised in military and historical works. For many years he worked for the Illustrated London News. The first group, offered here, is for Frederick Watson's Muckle John (Black, 1914) which, as noted in the foreword, is "the tale of the Rising of 1745. It is a story that each generation cherishes with undiminished affection". The second work is for T.C. Bridges' The Life Story of a Squirrel (Black, 1907).
