Catalogue Note

A. & C. Black published Daskein's Chimney Town in 1934. The book comprised four stories: 'Chimney Town', 'Here Come the Bears', 'The Stratosphere' (see next lot) and 'Janie of the Magic Shoes'. Offered here is THE COMPLETE SET OF ILLUSTRATIONS FOR THE FIRST STORY, INCLUDING THE WATERCOLOUR FRONTISPIECE, the illustrated title-page and seven full-page black and white illustrations. The other illustrations appear on pp. 2, 5, 7, 25, 28, 30, 35, 41 and 46.

The Australian Ida Outhwaite (1888-1960) is now chiefly remembered for her illustrations of fairies. The illustrations offered here demonstrate her remarkable skill in both watercolour and ink drawing.
