Catalogue Note

The satirical draughtsman, painter, writer and actor Beresford Egan - who was highly influenced by Aubrey Beardsley - was perhaps the defining British exponent of art deco. He launched his career with The Sink of Solitude (two copies in this lot), a satire on the banning of Radclyffe Hall's controversial lesbian novel The Well Of Loneliness (1928).
