the globular body supported on three paw feet issuing from animal masks, carved with taotie masks flanked by a pair of animal mask handles set with loose rings, the domed cover similarly carved and surmounted by a knobbed finial, wood stand

West Horsley Place, Surrey, Inventory, 1938, Vol. 2, p.127, in Lady Crewe’s Bedroom; A 4¾” do. Koro and lid with mask and loose ring handles, and on 4 paw feet, carved with foliage, on wood stand. £15. 

Condition

There are four shallow flakes (largest 0.6x0.2cm) and three short hairline cracks to the rim of the cover. The censer with a possible polished chip near one handle at the rim. The ear of the animal mask handle near this has a shallow chip. There is minor nibbling along the extremities and rim. Minor natural veins/inclusions.
