Catalogue Note

L'attitude du Cheval au pas s'inspire du modèle établi par Giambologna pour le monument équestre de Cosme 1er, érigé place de la Seigneurerie à Florence. Dès 1605, sont fondus les premièrs petits bronzes connus de ce sujet qui connaîtra un vif et constant succès tout au long des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles. Le Cheval cabré est probablement une création d'un artiste nordique pour former pendant avec le modèle de Giambologna. Nous pouvons signaler une paire des mêmes modèles figurant dans l'ancienne collection Wildenstein (sa vente à Londres, le 15 décembre 2005, lot 194).
