Watch dials engraved with this admonition were popular around 1830. The signatures of a variety of makers are found on the movements. The dials are very similar except for the engraved centre design. For another example of a watch with the admonition, 'KEEP ME CLEAN AND USE ME WELL - AND I TO YOU THE TRUTH WILL TELL'.
