Condition
Overall in good original condition. Two of the chairs are executed in cherry, and when viewed in person present with a redder hue. The wood surfaces with minor surface scratches, minor edge abrasions and minor surface dirt consistent with age and gentle use. The surfaces with minor traces of surface soiling, the seats and armrests with expected more concentrated dirt. The lower portion of the feet with more concentrated wear. Four very usable chairs and a classic design by Nakashima.
The original owners of this work met Nakashima in 1955 when they had a piece of furniture to repair. They enjoyed art and had an eye for what was modern. Mr. Nakashima explained that he did not repair but he did create furniture. When they saw his beautiful, organic pieces they were hooked. What began with a purchase of a headboard, developed into a close personal relationship and the acquisition of a number of pieces over the years. ---
