Description

  • Archaischer Löwe, Delos 1
gelatin silver print, the photographer's copyright stamp and with annotations in pencil on the reverse, 1937

Condition

This early gelatin silver print, on semi-glossy double-weight paper that is trimmed to the image, is in generally good to very good condition. Upon close examination in raking light, the following are visible: long scuffs; a few scattered scratches; scattered deposits of original retouching; and a few minor handling creases and fingerprints. There are sharp creases that break the emulsion at the corners, lower edge, and right edge. There are attendant tiny losses of emulsion. On the reverse of the print along the upper and lower edges are paper and adhesive remnants, suggesting this print was previously affixed to a mount. Also on the reverse are various numerical and inventory annotations in pencil. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
