Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. The canvas is unlined. There is wear at the turning edges and corners with associated wear to the pigment at the top right and bottom left corners and at the bottom right edge. There is very faint, scattered hairline cracking in the pigment at the turning edges. The canvas is slightly loose on the stretcher, so it is buckling very slightly at the top right corner. Unframed.

Catalogue Note
"The elegant craftsmanship and strategic armature of Will Cotton's compositions reveal a deeply academic bent that has less in common with the girl-and-candy Pop art of Mel Ramos and James Rosenquist, and more with the articulation of the surrogate caress found in Ingres, and the unabashedly joyous colour of Sargent. These are milk-bathed iconic nudes with the decadence of French court painting and the innocence of Shirley Temple; with the wryness of kitschy self-awareness and the guilelessness of Watteau."
(Shana Nys Dambrot, "Will Cotton", Modern Painters, February 2006)
