Catalogue Note

Manal Al Dowayan is a conceptual artist at the forefront of the global contemporary art scene. She was born and raised in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Al Dowayan's life has left her almost uniquely qualified to examine societal issues through the means of her art. Born in Saudi, she was educated in Dubai, Bahrain and London, allowing her to gain an international perspective on the position of women within different areas of the world. Her creative oeuvre to date has focused particularly on the position of women within society and her distinctive and powerful artistic language has been recognised and honoured internationally thorugh the inclusion of her works at the British Museum, London, The Jordan National Museum of Fine Arts and the Abu Dhabi Authority of Culture and Heritage.
