Condition

There is evidence of light handling and wear along the edges of the sheet. There are artist's pinholes at the top right corner and top left corner as well as scattered pinholes throughout the upper quadrants which are inherent to the work and the artist's working method. Framed under glass.

Catalogue Note

"Marlene Dumas makes visible that the occupied, 'calculated' woman loses her/his 'innocence' in images disqualified by the mass media. Her water-colors reactivate the notion that individual and heterogeneous personality images flow together in a 'pleasant' image of the wo/man–a tightrope walk by the artist Marlene Dumas between alienation and unmistakableness, appearance and reality, disguise and credibility."
Tilman Osterwold (Exh. Cat., Städtischen Galerie Ravensburg, Marlene Dumas: wet dreams. watercolors, 2003, p. 42)
