Catalogue Note
Haley Mellin’s practice draws on online sourced imagery, from Google stock images to auction or museum web files. For her Richter series, she has used low-res images of his paintings which are printed with an Epson large-format printer into wet oil paint. Her works are never what they appear to be as she consistently plays with current digital possibilities and the tradition of painting. ‘In between paintings, I consider and turn over digital images more than anything. Some become physical, most never do. The digital image is my product.’ (the artist in conversation with Tony Shafrazi for Garage magazine, Issue no. 7, 2014)
As one of the Still House Group's most prominent artists in residence, Mellin has gained international acclaim, showing with the group on an international stage, most recently at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens in Belgium and the Zabludowicz Collection in London.
