Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slightly brighter and more vibrant in the original.

Catalogue Note
The present work represents Brian Clarke's first major painting with the inclusion of a "cross" on architectural paper; both of which would become pervasive in his later work. This is an iconic and early work that set the tone for much of his subsequent body of work in drawings, paintings, photography and glass.
