Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the second square has fewer magenta undertones in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Very close inspection reveals extremely light rubbing to the lower left and upper right corners. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some isolated spots of retouching within the second square.

Catalogue Note

“A painter wants to formulate with or in color. Some painters regard color as concomitant of form, and hence as subordinate. For others, and an ever-increasing proportion, color is the chief medium of their pictorial language. Here color attains autonomy. My paintings represent the second trend. I am particularly interested in the psychic effect, an aesthetic experience that is evoked by the interaction of juxtaposed colors.”
