the martyred warrior saint shown standing at full length, holding a cross and palm, dressed in the garb of a Roman general, the icon with a monastery visible in the background, the oklad with "jeweled" halo and cross and chased palm frond, the borders with scrolling cloisonné applied with plaques and columns decorated with brightly colored floral and geometric ornament, the back of the icon applied with a gilded silver and champlevé enamel dedicatory plaque to recording the icon's presentation to Church Elder Fedor Grigoriev from members of his congregation in 1901, struck with the Cyrillic initials I.E. of an unidentified master, 84 standard

the oklad unusually heavy and impressive (26oz 4dwt; 821.1g gross); in overall excellent condition, some small wear to gilding and edges of icon and velvet consistent with age
