- 24.5cm., 9 3/4 in. over handles
oval, beaded borders and reeded handles, each engraved with a coat-of-arms, crest and viscount's coronet, scratch weights 'No. 1 27-1' and 'No. 3 27''3'
Condition
The marks and condition are good but with some wear and scratches commensurate with use and age, the stem of one is slightly bent; nice weight. The arms, which probably date from 1811 or soon afterwards, appear to replace earlier, erased arms.

Catalogue Note
The arms and crest are those of Dundas, Viscounts Melville with Saunders in pretence for Robert Saunders-Dundas, formerly Dundas, 2nd Viscount Melville (1771-1851). He, who succeeded to the title upon the death of his father in 1811, held a number of important posts, including Governor of the Bank of Scotland (1811-1821) and First Lord of the Admiralty (1812-1827 and 1828-1830). On 29 August 1796 he was married to Anne, elder daughter and coheir of Richard Huck-Saunders, formerly Huck, by Jane, daughter of Peter Kinsey and Anne his wife, sister of Admiral Sir Charles Saunders (1715?-1775). Lady Dundas, who was Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Charlotte (1813-1817) died in 1841.
