Catalogue Note
An almost identical plate is in The C. L. David collection, Copenhagen, illustrated by Svend Eriksen and Geoffrey de Bellaigue, Sévres Porcelain, 1987, p. 262, no. 77. A third was with Winifred Williams in his selling exhibition, Eighteenth century French Porcelain, 3rd-20th July 1978, no. 34. It is conceivable that all three plates once belonged to the same suite. The form appears in the 1752 stock list and examples painted with birds are also known, see the exhibition catalogue Porcelain de Vincennes Les Origines de Sèvres, 1977, Tamara Préaud (ed.), pp. 28-29, nos. 19-20.
