Description
- Jan Pauwel Gillemans the Younger
- Still life of grapes, oranges, figs, a melon, flowers and a red lacquer box, all upon a stone ledge;Still life of pears, grapes, peaches, figs, flowers and a woven basket, all upon a stone ledge
- a pair, both oil on canvas
- 24 x 33 cm
oil on canvas, relined,
Condition
The canvasses have been recently relined and are quite pressed as a result.
The paint surfaces are darkened with dirt. The former has discoloured retouchings in the lacquer box, in the upper bunch of grapes and to the ledge. In the latter there are retouchings in the bunch of pears and the right side of the basket.
Inspection under ultraviolet light shows a very thick reflective varnish that makes it very impossible to detect restoration. However with the naked eye one can see restrengthenings to shadow, contours, and to small damaged areas throughout the still life.
