Description

Condition
The panels are uncradled and in overall good condition. They are both dirty.
The paint surface of the former retains its impasto in the sky, although there is some wear in the foliage. There are tiny scattered discoloured retouchings in the sky. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows repair in the lower left margin, and along the upper margin,a light wash to the blue in the sky, and other small scattered re-strengthenings to the darker tones in the composition. There is also a very fine horizontal split in the panel running through the tower, that has been lightly overpainted (measuring 6 cm.). It is barely detectable to the naked eye.
The paint surface of the latter picture is also thick in the sky, and with less wear overall. There are some discoloured retouchings around the margins. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows older retouching to the lower left and upper right corners, to two small patches I the cloud, and to the area between castle and tree on the left. More recent restoration consists of repair to the lower left margin, to the centre of the upper margin, and to a small area by the tree lower right.
The pair are offered in matching wooden frames with gilt sight edges, with knocks and scratches, but structurally sound.
