Oil on original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There are some losses to the paint around the extreme edges of the work, possibly as a result of frame abrasion, most apparent along the top horizontal edge and, to a lesser extent, at each vertical edge. There is also some matter adhered to the canvas at several points around the extreme edges of the work, possibly from a previous frame. There appears to be a very light surface scratch, measuring approximately 4cm., on the right forearm of the girl.There are possibly some extremely small flecks of paint loss, most apparent towards the lower half of the composition. There is some surface dirt across the work. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good condition. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching.
