Condition
The illustration is accurate.
Good overall condition despite the inevitable scratches and marks due to age and use.
As visible on the illustration, there are some minor traces of water. The top is sun faded and the reverse is not.
The key is missing.
Two small very dry areas on the lateral sides with break to the leather.

Catalogue Note
Nicolas-Jacques Garnesson, marchand de nécessaires, était installé au n°155-156 des galeries du Palais Royal. Il collabora avec les principaux fournisseurs de la Cour impériale, puis ceux de la cour des Bourbons. A sa mort en 1824, son fils Hippolyte reprit l'activité familiale.
Ce portefeuille fut très probablement réalisé pour Louis-Joseph du Plessis de Grénédan (1767-1842) : maire éphémère de Rennes en 1792 et légitimiste convaincu, il fut député d'Ille-et-Vilaine sous la Restauration.
