Condition

The image in the catalogue appears bluer than the work really is. The paper waves a little bit. Small brown spots appear in the sky and small foxing dots are scattered on the surface (visible on the catalogue).

Catalogue Note

A la forme du shako et au plumet noir, nous reconnaissons là sans doute l'uniforme des fantassins prussiens en 1815. On distingue à l'arrière-plan la manufacture de Jouy, fondée par C.P. Oberkampf, célèbre pour ses toiles imprimées. Selon Paul-André Lemoisne, l'aquarelle a fait partie de l'album du duc Raoul de Montmorency.

From the shako and the black feather, one may recognize the Prussian infantry outfit in 1815. The Jouy Factory, founded by C.P. Oberkampf and famous for its printed fabrics is represented in the background. According to Paul-André Lemoisne, the watercolor was part of the duc de Montmorency's album.
