Condition

Bon état général. Les couleurs sont assez fraîches mais le carton a très légèrement assombri l'ensemble. Quelques traces de moisisures sur le verre et quelques marques d'humidité dans le fond qui n'altèrent pas la lecture générale de l'ensemble.

Catalogue Note

Le personnage peint sur cette miniature n’est autre que le quatorzième fils de Léopold II, l’empereur du Saint Empire et de l’infante Marie-Louise d’Espagne. Pendant les guerres napoléoniennes, il fut maréchal de l’armée autrichienne et combattit à Abensberg en Bavière, Landshut, et Ebersberg avant de finalement rendre les armes. Il fut également un brillant diplomate et prit part à la Conférence d’Etat entre les années 1836 et 1848. Après la révolution de 1848, il se retira de la vie publique. 

The sitter was born in Florence, the fourteenth child of Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor and Infanta Maria-Louisa of Spain. During the Napoleonic wars he was Field-Marshal in the Austrian Army and he fought at Abensberg, Landshut and Ebersberg before handing over command.  He was also a skilled diplomat and served as Chief of the State Conference between 1836 and 1848. After the revolution of 1848 he retired from public life.
