Bon état général. Les couleurs sont fraîches mais l'ivoire s'est déplacé sur la gauche et a laissé un vide sur la droite. Le verre s'est sali.

Le modèle ici représenté était l’unique fille héritière du grand duc de Mecklenbourg-Schwerin (1778-1819) et de sa seconde épouse, la princesse Caroline Louise de Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1786-1816). En mai 1837, elle se maria au prince Ferdinand-Philippe d’Orléans (1818-1842), aîné des fils de Louis-Philippe. Le mariage passait pour heureux et le couple eut deux enfants, le prince Philippe, Comte de Paris (1838-1894) et le prince Robert, duc de Chartres (1840-1910). A l’abdication du Roi en 1848, la duchesse fut contrainte à l’exil, d’abord en Allemagne, puis en Angleterre où elle passa ses derniers jours à Richmond, près de Londres.
The sitter was the only daughter of the Hereditary Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1778-1819) and his second wife Princess Karoline Luise of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1786-1816). In May 1837, she married Prince Ferdinand-Philippe d’Orléans (1810-1842), the eldest son of Louis Philippe. The marriage was happy, and the couple had two children, Prince Philippe, Comte de Paris (1838-1894) and Prince Robert, Duke of Chartres (1840-1910). After the abdication of the King in 1848, Princess Hélène was forced into exile, initially in Germany and then England, where she died at Richmond, near London.
