Condition

Très bon état général, quelques poussières se sont glissées entre le verre et la peinture, quelques très légères traces de moisisures n'altérant pas la lecture de l'ensemble.

Catalogue Note

Le modèle était la seconde fille de Louis-Philippe, roi des Français et de sa femme Marie-Amélie des Deux-Siciles. Cette princesse fut une artiste talentueuse et reçut des leçons de sculpture d’Ary Scheffer (1795-1858). En octobre 1837, elle épousa le prince Alexandre de Württemberg (1804-1881). Le couple eut un fils, Philippe de Württtemberg (1838-1917), mais la princesse ne lui survécut pas longtemps, puisqu’elle succomba tragiquement de la tuberculose au début de l’année 1839.

The sitter was the second daughter of King Louis Philippe, King of the French and his wife Maria Amalia of the Two Sicilies. The Princess was a talented artist and she trained as a sculptress under Ary Scheffer  (1795-1858).  In October 1837, she married Prince Alexander of Württemberg (1804-1881). The couple had one son, Philippe of Württemberg (1838-1917), but tragically Princess Marie died of tuberculosis in early 1839.
