of circular form, intricately carved through rich layers of red lacquer to reveal the ochre-yellow ground, the domed cover with two ferocious scaly dragons, one amidst cloud scrolls, the other writhing amidst tumultuous foaming waves, the side of the box with a further dragon in pursuit of a 'flaming pearl', the interior and base lacquered black (2)

Condition

The cover with some small chips to clouds above rim and the mane of the dragon's head; the rim and interior with some consolidation to lacquer lifting and loss. The base interior with some small cracks and lifting lacquer and with some small chips and flaking lacquer around rim, the foot with expected wear.
