Description

of conical form with everted rim resting on a low knife-pared foot, the interior crisply molded with a central stylized flowerhead medallion set with the character yang encircled by an undulating leafy stem issuing three large blooms and three smaller blossoms, the exterior incised with petal-like radiating lines, the foot ring unglazed for firing
Condition
The bowl is in overall good condition. There are iron stains and one glaze flaw along the exterior rim and base.

Catalogue Note
It is rare to find bowls of this type with inscriptions. A similar example bearing a similar yang mark was sold in these rooms 23rd March 2011, lot 557. A bowl of the same pattern, lacking the mark, excavated from the kiln site, is illustrated in Yaozhou Kiln, Xi'an, 1992, along with a ceramic mold used to make the 'chrysanthemum' pattern.
