Description
- bamboo
circular, finely carved in low relief on the domed cover with the bajixiang, the 'Eight Buddhist Emblems' centred with a Sanskrit character flanked by two bats and surrounded by ruyi strapwork and leiwen around the outer edge, the sides decorated with ten bats hovering among clouds between border of leiwen, all supported on a broad footrim and slightly recessed base, the bamboo veneer finely patinated to a warm amber-brown colour
Condition
The box is in overall very good condition. There are few expected vertical age cracks scattered around the sides of the cover and a few further age crackles to the veneer on top. There is some typical surface wear to the underside.
