Description

  • ivory
of oblong section, the raised centre finely carved in high relief with two scholars engaged in a game of weiqi, the sides detailed with detached sprays of leafy pomegranate and squirrel and grapes, all reserved on a leiwen ground, the ivory bearing a fine age patina

Condition

There are some small age cracks to one extremity, some tiny nibbles to the outer edges or occasional tiny chips, including a small chip to the tip end of one leaf on the centre design of scholar playing chess, some light expected wear to the underside, but overall the spindle is in very good condition.
