Description
- ceramic
the shallow rounded sides rising to a broad flat rim, the interior applied with a pair of scaly fish, encircled by a band of incised waves faintly carved and combed in the cavetto, applied overall with an attractive bluish-green glaze finely suffused with a matrix of crackles, thinning to white along the edges and stopping short above a neatly cut unglazed footring
Provenance
Mayuyama & Co. Ltd., Tokyo, circa 1960s.
Condition
There is an old two-section chip at 5 o'clock restored to the rim as visible on the photo with a three-prong crack extending from it on the underside. There is another crack to the rim at 3 o'clock with some darker dirt accretion (also showing on the photo. The crack is going over the rim and extending on approx 9 cm. on the underside. There is another less prominent crack to the rim at approx 12 o'clock with a small loss of glaze (approx 0.5 cm) to the underside that have been filled in. There are a few kiln chips to the footrim and a burst air bubble in the glaze at approx 10 o' clock on the underside of the rim. The colour of the glaze is very attractive, slightly darker and a fraction more green compared to the catalogue illustration, but still nicely tinged to blue.
