the slender handle deftly carved through layers of rich cinnabar lacquer to a ground of incised waves with a dragon writhing among ruyi-shaped clouds holding a 'flaming pearl', between a border of key-fret and pendant pointy lappets around the upper joint and a flower head on the terminal, the cap similarly decorated with a dragon writhing among swirling clouds and two ruyi-shaped clouds on the top, inscribed Japanese wood box
Condition
The brush is in overall good condition, commensurate with its age. There is some spot retouching to the lacquer in areas, typically around the brush ends and to the rim of the cap. There is an old minute dent to one ruyi- cloud on the top of the cap.
