A PALE CELADON JADE 'TWO GEESE' CARVING QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY

Estimate
30,000 - 40,000 HKD
bidding is closed

Description

  • jade
carved in openwork in the form of two geese grasping a sprig of pondweed in their beaks and drifting on gentle currents depicted on the underside by fine swirling lines, the russet skin of the softly polished stone cleverly used to define the birds’ heads

Condition

The group carving is in overall good condition. There is some light surface wear consistent with age and typical occasional nibbling along the edges, including a couple of tiny nicks to the edge of one leaf of the spray the two geese grasp in their beak. The actual colour is somewhat warmer and a little bit more celadon when compared to the illustration in the catalogue.
