40,000 - 60,000 HKD
bidding is closed

Description

  • porcelain
with deep rounded sides rising from a short foot to a slightly everted rim, painted on the exterior with four circular medallions depicting the Bo gu ('Hundred Antiques') divided by flowering and fruiting sprays of gourds wreathed in curling tendrils, all reserved on a yellow ground, the interior centred with a gilt shou character surrounded by five iron-red bats, the base inscribed in iron red with a six-character seal mark

Condition

The bowl is in good overall condition. There are some expected minor firing faults including pinholes or minute iron spots to the interior. There is some rubbing to the enamels, predominantly to the iron-red bats on the interior, as well as rubbing to the gilding on the rim and light surface scratches to the glaze. There is some bubbling and accretions to the yellow enameled ground on the exterior, typical of the type and consistent with the period. The actual colours are deeper and warmer, less saturated, the yellow ground less orange, when compared to the catalogue illustration.
