This work is in very good condition. There is evidence of scattered minor paint losses at the lower right corner and in an area 39 cm to the top and 15 cm to the left edges of the work. Under UV, there is no evidence of restoration.

袁遠出生於1973年，畢業於杭州著名的中國美術學院，其作品的題材往往來自他獨特的個人經歷，他大尺幅的油畫作品往往以逼真的視角賦予作品一種廢棄荒置的氛圍。作於2010年的《藍色四號》與其它藝術家常描繪的室內作品不同，為其創作中相當罕見的風景範例。荒蕪的森林籠罩著如夢似幻的氣氛，冰冷的藍調浮現眼前，作品瀰漫著一股憂鬱神秘的氣息，喚起觀者恆久不散的共鳴。作為一高度工業化及發展中國家，中國在過去數十年來經歷不少重大變遷。為了便於迅速發展經濟，大量森林河川更因此消失殆盡。袁遠以《藍色四號》展示空無一人的廢棄森林，旨在反映現今高度消費主義的中國社會中，自己對那些消失事物的追憶與渴求。本作曾於2011年巴黎密特朗畫廊舉辦之藝術家首次海外個展中展出，在與觀者進行空靈微妙的交流的同時，又不忘強調藝術家對故鄉的關注與熱愛，別具代表價值。
