Description

  • Johann Dorner the Younger
  • Landscape with the Alpbach near Tegernsee
  • signed with monogram and dated lower right: 18JD18
  • oil on panel
  • 45 by 60.5 cm.; 17¾ by 23¾ in.

Provenance

Georg Schäfer (1896 - 1975), Schweinfurt;
His sale, Munich, Neumeister Kunstauktionen, 24 February 2005, lot 18;
Purchased at the above sale by the present owner.

Condition

The panel is rather convex and there is a horizontal split visible both on the verso and on the recto which is associated to this bending but seems quite stable. Ultra-violet light reveals some retouching addressing the horizontal line mentioned above, some other scattered spots in the sky and an area of fluorescence in the lower half of the composition possibly attributable to old residual varnish. Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
