Provenance

Georg Schäfer (1896 - 1975), Schweinfurt;
His sale, Munich, Neumeister Kunstauktionen, 25 February 2005, lot 526;
Purchased at the above sale by the present owner.

Condition

The canvas has been lined. There is a pattern of hairline craquelure throughout the painting surface, notably in the upper left quadrant of the composition. There is a minor spot of paint flaking in the green curtain, circa 25 cm from the top framing edge and 17 cm from the left, which could probably benefit from some stabilisation, and some minor rubbing along the bottom framing edge. Ultra-violet light reveals some areas of retouching, notably in the four corners of the composition and along the table edges. The picture is in otherwise good condition and ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
