Anonymous sale, London, Bonhams, 7 November 2006, lot 91;
Purchased at the above sale by the present owner.

Condition

The panel is ensuring a flat and even support. There is a circa 1 cm panel joint along the left edge which appears to be entirely stable. Under ultra-violet light the surface has quite an uneven appearance; there are some strokes which appear to correspond clearly to retouching, notably in the drape in the upper centre and in the umbrella in the lower right, some other areas of fluorescence notably towards the left edge my relate to the old residual varnish or could also correspond to retouching. The overall appearance of the work under normal light is good and is otherwise ready to hang. Presented in a coved and fluted gilt frame.
