Description

  • A pair of Roman marble janiform herm heads

  • 11.9cm. and 12.8cm. high; 4 5/8in., 5in.
each carved on one side with a bearded head of Dionysos, and on the other side with a head of a maenad.

Condition

Good condition overall. The the surface of both herms is slightly weathered overall. On one of the heads the end of the beard is fragmentary and was recarved in a curved shape, on the other the tip of the beard is chipped. All four noses abraded, one missing its tip. The heads are easily removable from their modern suppports. Each is drilled underneath and fitted with a metal pin.
