Condition
The canvas has been strip-lined. There is a faint pattern of craquelure including some stretcher marks corresponding to the central horizontal stretcher bar. Ultra-violet light reveals a handful of relatively minor scattered retouchings, notably a circa 2 cm vertical repair in the background above the right shoulder (patched on the reverse), a few tiny spots in his face and a small area in the grey pigments above the working tools. This picture is in good overall condition and ready to hang.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
