Condition

Overall the condition of the marble is good, with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The nose is carved separately. There is some minor weathering to the surface, in particular to the hair. There are a few naturally occurring inclusions to the marble, in particular to the proper left temple. There are several dirt marks, notably to the folds of the cloak at the front, and reddish marks to the hair at the back and the proper left shoulder at the back. The head is lighter in colour than the bust and socle. There are numerous chips and abrasions around the edges of the truncation at the front and at the back. There are further chips and abrasions to the edges of the socle, including larger chips at the back. A layer of plaster is visible where the bust joins the socle.
